Nuit Blanche 2017 :: Toronto :: WIGGLY STREET :: #84

© image of Ryan Longo + aleks Bartosik
Design by Nour Bawab
WIGGLY STREET (no. 84) is an urban celebration of Canada, 150 Years into the Future.  This art installation and performance is created by the Wiggly Artists Collective specifically for Nuit Blanche Toronto 2017.  The Wiggly Artists Collective is a multidisciplinary collective that combines sculpture, visual arts, film, video, art performance, dance, sound, and music creating environments that unite their audiences. Produced by Takin Nateghi, WIGGLY STREET combines four major components that are led by four respective artists:

~ Visual and Performance Artist ~ Will create 6min long live performances each hour on the hour with Aurorah (musician) and Eros Leonard (dancer). Representing a 24-hour cycle over the 'future' years that tells a story of love and unity of the potential unknown, which are fundamental Canadian values.

:: Rouzbeh Heydari ::
~ Filmmaker, Director, and Producer ~ Projection mapping celebrating major world milestones and symbolisms that represent Canadian culture and values, such as multiculturalism, equality, and universality

:: Ryan Longo ::
~ Sculpture Artist ~ Sculptural installations with LED components representing futuristic urban forestry.

:: TAKIN of Wiggly Events ::
~ DJ and Producer ~ Curates the Audio Component – hourly audio performances will symbolically ignite the 'Reactor' (Longo) that powers the installation, fueled by the vibrations caused by audience movement.

NUIT BLANCHE artists do not get payed to create for this FREE event, and as such, we have created a GoFundMe Page in hopes to raise funding to cover some of the costs associated in putting together this art installation.

We appreciate any help!
 Thank You, in advance, for your on-going support!

The Toronto Star

THE TORONTO STAR
AGO course explores feminism through art: Participants learn to use visual art to inspire change and create dialogue."

by JACKIE HONG, staff reporter
Friday, April 14, 2017

Canadian artist Aleks Bartosik has long used painting, drawing and sculpture to explore feminist ideas.
Her life experiences were the inspiration behind the first edition of “Art-making Inspired by Feminist Ideas,” a course at the Art Gallery of Ontario that saw a dozen participants explore feminism through various visual mediums including zine-making, collage, painting and sculpture.
“It was feminist-driven . . . but I don’t want that to be the only thing that (participants) take away from it,” Bartosik said in March after the conclusion of the first edition. “(I hope they get) a sense of achievement and self-expression to speak through visual language, to inspire change or create a dialogue about feminism and talk about ideas to end sexism, oppression, things like that,” she said.
“Art-making is just one form they can do that through without standing around and picketing.”
The second edition of the course will run for five weeks starting May 3, and costs $275 for AGO members or $355 for the public. Registration is available on the AGO’s website.
The Star asked some of the first edition participants what feminism means to them and how they expressed it through the art they made during the course.

:: OUR PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE IS ::
9:30pm* 10:30pm * 11:30pm * 12:30am *2am *3am

iridescent story pieces is an art installation created by visual artist aleks Bartosik  (ALeKs BaRtosiK ART).  This is a body of work that the artist has been exploring for over a year, creating different formations, such as a dome, a kinetic sculpture, and a series of performances in collaboration with cross-disciplinary performers.   This is a piece that is in constant change and presented in it's different formations - let the colours tell you a story.

Over the duration of Nuit Blanche, and held in conjunction with Wiggly EventsWiGGLY Street ~ Nuit Blanche on 145 Queen St W (University & York),  iridescent story pieces performance will run about every hour for 8 minutes, starting at 9:30pm.  Working in collaboration with performance artist and dancers, Aurorah, Em Leonard, and Beki Bobrovski, (and a few surprise character appearances) the performance will evolve, transform, engage, and build into an imaginary world, or a play-ground of sorts, for ‘the adult’ (and child alike), as the fantastical creatures dance amongst and within the crowd.

iridescent story pieces performance explores the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, I would like to take you by the hand and lead you into my maze of pictorial creations and fantastical creatures that will take you to places you never been and show you things you never seen.

Project

POSTCARD PROJECT for Harvest Fest 2010
my art contribution to the festival

For this year's Harvest Festival held in Burk's Falls in Ontario, I made 43 postcards with my artwork. Each card is original and numbered according to how many of that particular artwork were in an edition especially made for Harvest Fest 2010. (edition is written at the top left corner of each card)

I distributed them amongst my friends and the people I met on the dance-floor at Harvest during Saturday night. 40 postcards were successfully filled out and sent!

I loved Harvest Festival last year so much, and I thought, what a wonderful feeling it would be to receive a postcard roughly 2 weeks after the event just to rekindle some of those good vibes, experiences and memories of the new people we all met and those we already know. Also, it was my attempt to share my artwork with the people who participated.

I went around and asked people, those who were willing to participate, to choose a postcard they like, write their address on the back, put it back in the pile and choose another card (with someone else's address already in place, someone you may not even know!) and write a message.

Your message : ANYTHING! Can be just good wishes, a statement, your dreams, your fears, your secrets, a love letter, a story, a description, anything! You were free to choose to sign your name on the message or remain completely anonymous, or make one up.

So, people left addresses and signed their messages on random cards from the pile, including myself. Small donations were asked to help me cover the cost of postage.

I hope to make this project even BIGGER next year! Enjoy! XO

* a special THANK YOU to those who participated, because without you, this project would not be possible!! *

* this project will continue for BURNING MAN 2011, a project that I will do with my two good friends Jimmy Boddie and Erika Marzinotto, AND for NUIT BLANCHE 2011

** WATCH FOR IT IF YOU'RE ATTENDING ANY OF THE ABOVE EVENTS! **
