John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto

  • The John B. Aird Gallery is pleased to present its 14th annual juried drawing exhibition. Running from January 8 until February 1, DRAWING 2013 presents 35 original works by emerging and established artists that demonstrate the skill and creativity of the discipline at its best.

This year, 82 artists from across Ontario submitted more than 161 drawings in a variety of styles, media and techniques for consideration. The submissions reflected a full spectrum of ideas about and approaches to drawing.

Two jurors selected the 35 works in the exhibition and awarded prizes. The jurors were Stuart Reid and Dale Barrett.  Barrett has served as Director of the John B. Aird Gallery since 1998.

Every iteration of this annual juried exhibition has a different tenor or tone. While no single theme or trait is ever dominant throughout, this year's exhibition, once again, offers an overview of the strength and diversity of contemporary drawing in our region.

The following artists’ works have been selected for the exhibition:

Arash Akhgari, Aleks Bartosik, Susan Avishai, Mel Coleman, Lilian Crum, Susan Farquhar, Dylan Farrell, Erin Finley,
Agnieszka Foltyn, Janny Fraser, Kendra Gadzala, James Gardner, Toni Hamel, Hladik Lumir, Marlene Kates, Bogdan Luca, Nancy Oakes, Liane Odze-Silver, Leena Raudvee, Lauren Satok, Lois Schklar, Tai Selbach, Cornelius Spek, Sarah Walterhouse.

I'm pleased to announce that I received The Japanese Paper Place Award for integration of materials.
